Is the San Francisco Giants going to Repeat?

The 2010 San Francisco Giants earned their way into the World Series. Although they needed to chase down the San Diego Padres at the end of the season and erase what was a six game lead at the end of August, they did just that.

They would take down the Atlanta Braves followed by the Philadelphia Phillies, two teams that are as good as any team not only in the National League but in baseball.

The Giants used their solid pitching and timely hitting to win the NLCS and get in to the World Series. They weren't the favorites coming in, but they proved to be the better team from start to finish as they dominated the Texas Rangers in five games, celebrating on Texas' home field on Monday night.

That was last year.  How about this year? Do you think the Giants will repeat this year?

How often do you text?
A new study shows that teens send and receive an average of 2,272 texts per month, which breaks down to about 80 texts per day... which is like 10 texts per hour, or one text every six minutes.

The number seems a little high to us, but researchers for the Nielsen Company looked at over 40,000 monthly mobile bills to get the average stats, which concluded that teens literally "text in the morning before they brush their teeth and continue late into the night with the last text messages sneaked in under the covers right before they close their eyes to sleep."

And while texting has become as part of normal everyday life, a report in the New York Times says physicians and psychologists worry that compulsive texting can lead to anxiety, distraction in school, falling grades, stress and sleep deprivation. A 15-year-old girl in Maryland even reported painful thumb cramping from too much texting so she switched to an iPhone so she could text on a touch screen instead.

What do you think of the new Body Scanners at an airport near you?

X-ray full body scanners are being deployed around the US in an effort to thwart terrorist attacks.  The controversial technology works by bouncing an X-ray beam off a person to create a full-body image that reveals contours and natural curves.

The image is displayed on a computer screen in a private room. The person's face is never shown -- and their identity, in theory, is unknown to the airport screener. Passengers can skip the scan and opt instead for a pat-down, which is criticized for being overly personal in the groin area. What do you think?

Have you ever loved an animal?
I have loved many animals over the years.  My dog Annie was so much a part of my life.  I ran with her.  She was always there.  But she got cancer and about a year later she died.  That was a very sad moment of my life.  The year was 1983.  A few years later Lisa brought home a cat and we named him Sid.  He was the best cat.

16 great years later he started having a hard time eating.  For six months I had to help him eat.  But he did not get better.  At the Vet, I had to made the decision to put him down.  I went out to the parking lot and cried.  It was so sad.  Today Catherine and I have two Cats.  We love them so much.  How about you? Do you currently have any animals that you love? Or have you had any in the past? Tell us your story. - Bob Anderson

How often do you wear a hat?
A hat is the most noticeable fashion item anyone can wear.  The old saying goes 'if you want to get ahead and get noticed, then get a hat'.  Indeed the word 'ahead' means just that one head further forward.

Many women shy away from wearing hats simply because they honestly believe that they would not be able to pull off wearing one. To some women, hats call too much attention to themselves.

Some women, on the other hand, just do not know how to wear a hat. It is a shame, actually, because a hat is a fashion accessory that every woman should have in her wardrobe.

Up until the 1950's men were rarely seen out and about without a hat sitting upon their head. Since that time, the wearing of hats has seen a precipitous decline. No one is precisely sure why.

Some say the downfall of hats occurred when JFK did not wear a hat to his inauguration, thus forever branding them as uncool.

How about you? How often do you wear a hat? And what kind of hat do you wear?

The World Series is a tradition in American sports that extends back over 100 years. The games are played in October, so there is often a crisp chill in the air at a World Series baseball game. But the cooler temperatures are offset by the electricity of the crowd during each game.

Each game is critical to the outcome, so every inning and every at bat are huge. 162 regular season baseball games, and two weeks of playoff games, come down to a few World Series games. The crowds buzz, the teams are intense and each player is trying to make that one key play that will be talked about forever.

Is Cheerleading a Sport?
This story came in yesterday: "CHEERLEADING is exhausting, acrobatic, risky for participants and the focus of a booming subculture promoting it as an American cultural icon.

But, according to a landmark US court judgment, it is not a sport. The verdict, in a case against a Connecticut university, was hailed yesterday as a victory for women's sports and equal opportunities.

Judge Stefan Underhill, of the US District Court in Connecticut, ruled that Quinnipiac University, a liberal arts college, acted illegally by shutting down its women's volleyball team and replacing it with a cheerleading squad.

“Competitive cheer may, some time in the future, qualify as a sport under Title IX,” Mr Underhill wrote after a week-long trial to resolve a lawsuit filed by the volleyball team. “Today, however, the activity is still too underdeveloped and disorganized to be treated as offering genuine varsity athletic participation opportunities.”

The NCAA Baketball Tournament started March 18 with 64 teams.  There has been a lot of surprises along the way and now we are down to the final four.    This Saturday (April 3rd) Butler will be playing Michigan State and Duke will be playing West Virginia in the National Semi Finals.  The finals will be held Monday April 5th in Indianapolis.  What team do you think will win?  Pick the winner and receive 100 bonus points in our new Make It Happen contest which starts April 1st.  (Optional) Pick the point spread of your winning team and double your bonus.

The Teams in the Final Four:

Butler - Playing 15 minutes from their campus, the Bulldogs are the warm-and-fuzzy story of the week. But don’t be misled by their conference (Horizon) or the “mid-major” tag. They were No. 11 in the Associated Press preseason poll, have a future first-round pick in forward Gordon Hayward and own a 24-game winning streak.

Michigan State - One year after losing to North Carolina in the championship game, the Spartans get another chance. But they’ll do it without star point guard Kalin Lucas, who tore his Achilles tendon in the Sweet 16. After winning tournament games by one, two and three points, how much good fortune do the Spartans have left?

West Virginia - Led by coach (and alum) Bob Huggins, the Mountaineers are making their first Final Four appearance since 1959, when they lost to Cal in the championship despite 28 points by West. For Huggins, it’s the first Final Four since he guided Cincinnati and Nick Van Exel in 1992.

Duke - After a five-year absence, which included a string of tournament losses to lower-seeded teams, the Blue Devils are on the Final Four stage. They’re smart and skilled and possess a guard, Nolan Smith, who can create his own points when the offense stagnates. Smith’s the son of the late Louisville player Derek Smith, whose Cardinals won the 1980 NCAA title … in Indianapolis.

Which of these four teams will end up being crowned the winner? 100 Bonus points for selecting the winning team.  Cast you vote by noon (California time) Saturday April 3rd.  Double your bonus by picking the number of points of your winning team.

How ethical are you when you shop?

With the vast amount of brands and stores out there, there are plenty to choose from! However, some are more appealing than others on the ethical scale. Ethics is when what is good and what is bad is taken into account.

A company that practices good ethics makes sure that it is not harming the environment, cruel to animals, cruel to people, etc. While some cans of tuna say "Dolphin Safe" they can be a few cents more expensive than those that do not and kill dolphins while fishing for tuna. Other cases are when brands create their items over seas and use sweat shops or child labor. Are you conscience of these things while you shop?

You take the 2 lane highway, that no one uses anymore, to avoid the police. The lines on the road look double but no one was on the road so it didn't really matter. As you just realize you left your cell at the party, you round a corner and see a car about 300 yards ahead. Suddenly a deer runs out onto the road and the car in front of you crashes into it. You don't think you had anything to do with the accident. You are just able to stop before hitting anything you think. You roll down your window and you hear a person calling for help. So what do you do next?
